New books on Nigeria

In a provocative report on Nigeria: Want in the Midst of Plenty (African Report No. 113-19 July 2006), the volume Nigeria in the Twenty-First Centure: Strategies for Political Stability and Peaceful Coexistence (Africa World Press, Trenton, NJ 2005) was cited nine times.  The book is edited by Professor E. Ike Udogu, Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice, Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina.  The Report was put together by the International Crisis Group Working to Prevent Conflict Worldwide.  The report originated from Brussels, Belgium and Darak, Senegal.

Also, Professor E. Ike Udogu recently published a stimulating book titled, African American Politics in Rural America: Theory, Practice and Case Studies from Florence County, South Carolina (University Press of America, Lanham, MD 2006).  Unlike most books on national, state, and local governments, this timely volume is concerned with theories and political actors -- particularly their perceptions, frustrations, and, sometimes, satisfaction with the complex processes of governance at the grassroots level in American politics.
